Curriculum Design Highlights
- My master’s degree thesis project gave me the opportunity to lead out as the project manager in employing the best techniques available for a needs assessment of the Qwest Initial Training Program. Working with diverse teams and multiple stakeholders, we counseled, planned, and executed the needs assessment through interviews, surveys, and curriculum reviews. Synergy was the result. This accurate assessment allowed us to improve the training program through the implementation of more engaging enhancements which increased trainees’ levels of confidence to perform necessary job functions by as much as 66%.
- Working towards a doctorate degree in Instructional Psychology and Technology has given me new perspectives on curriculum design and learning in general. This has greatly added to the experience and knowledge I gained on the subjects from my master’s degree. I have had the opportunity to learn from the experiences and perspective of Andrew Gibbons (author of the award-winning book, An Architectural Approach to Instructional Design) in several instructional design courses at BYU. I am currently enrolled in the advanced design course with Dr. Gibbons in which we have been designing a museum exhibition for the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point. When our design team presented the model and our ideas for our “Big & Small” exhibition, the Thanksgiving point representatives were very impressed and have invited us to come and present our exhibition model and ideas to the rest of Thanksgiving Point management. Our Big & Small exhibition has 11 individual museum exhibits which will take each visitor on an exploration of the big and small world, the world that, for the most part, lies outside the realm of human visibility.
- The most recent curriculum design project I have been working on is the creation of a learning management system for BYU Broadcasting. I have built a website from scratch using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP to house all the individual training I am creating for different positions within the Membership Department. In the creation of these trainings, I have utilized Adobe Flash, Captivate, Premiere, Audition, and Final Cut Pro. I have created several trainings for the website and will continue to add more.
