Master’s Thesis Abstract

This research project was designed as a needs assessment for the Qwest Initial Training Program in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  The needs assessment was conducted as part of an efficiency evaluation prompted by the recent merger of Qwest and CenturyLink.  The study was conducted through administrating a Qwest Initial Training Survey to a training class who just finishing the initial training program.  The same survey was also given to a class that graduated 5 weeks prior, thus having had the opportunity to implement their training as regular Qwest Sales Consultants.  The findings of this study include that the general perception of the Qwest Initial Training Program among all participants was one of satisfaction.  Both groups surveyed, felt that the initial training program did well at helping them prepare for their full-time position at Qwest.  Along with the positive response received about the initial training program, this study also identified several places for possible improvement.  Participants reported low perceived levels of confidence in several computer systems used by Qwest Employees on a daily basis.  Also, many of the participants in this study recommended more hands-on practice and individualized coaching to help in the learning process.
